Yet, this lifeline is under threat—from pollution, overuse, and the accelerating impacts of climate change. The Sainsbury Centre’s exhibition, A World of Water, offers a powerful lens through which to explore these urgent issues, using art to spark dialogue and inspire action.
Exploring Our Global Relationship with Water
A World of Water brings together works by British and international artists spanning the last 250 years, each offering a unique perspective on evolving marine ecosystems and oceanic habitats. The exhibition takes the North Sea and the historical relationship between Norfolk and the Netherlands as its starting point, examining how human activity has shaped—and continues to endanger—our seas.
Through paintings, sculptures, and installations by artists such as Maggi Hambling, Eva Rothschild, Julian Charrière, and others, visitors are invited to contemplate the complexity of sea and marine life. The exhibition does not shy away from the hard questions: How are governments responding to climate change, coastal erosion, and environmental degradation? What are the consequences of our collective inaction?
