WOW, Being Where It’s At

Harbour View

Wherever people gather, conversations flow — and where conversations flow, World of Water is there. From the earliest online harbours to today’s busy platforms, we go where ideas meet, questions surface, and change begins. Because protecting water means showing up, everywhere the tide takes us.

Why “Being Where It’s At” Matters for World of Water

Step aboard. At World of Water, our mission is to protect water and the life it sustains, and to do that well, we have to travel where the people are. Conversations about water don’t happen in one place — they spring up like streams, merge into rivers, and sometimes spill into choppy seas. Our job is to be in those waters, guiding the discussion, answering questions, and steering towards shared understanding.

Our course has taken us through many ports of call on the digital map. In the early days we docked at Geocities, MySpace, and Yahoo360. Later we moored at Facebook, InstaGram and YouTube, and now one of our channels includes X (formerly Twitter).

Some of these harbours have vanished, others have changed shape, and new ones are built all the time. Wherever the tide of conversation takes people, that’s where you’ll find us  –  not just broadcasting, but listening, learning, and exchanging ideas.

Being on X is simply part of that journey. Like any stretch of river, it has its calm waters and its rapids. Guidelines shift, ownership changes, currents swirl with competing voices. While some vessels turn back when the waters get rough, we keep going, because it’s in these stretches that you meet new travellers, challenge the debris of misinformation, and spark the vital conversations that keep water protection afloat. If we pull away, we close the channel.

Thinking of the “X” in our logbook as more than a mark on a map.

Traditionally, X has been a legal signature –  a sign of presence and intent. Our X is just that: a visible commitment to keep the conversation about water open to everyone on board, from seasoned advocates to curious newcomers, sceptics, and even those whose choices may be causing harm. Every passenger has a stake in water, and everyone can help steer towards its protection.

The landscape will keep changing. Platforms will appear and disappear, rules will shift like the wind. Through every kind of rain — and every kind of reign — our heading stays true. We carry the same compass wherever we sail: care for the environment, recognition of nature’s rights, safeguarding for people and all other species. These are more than policies –  they’re promises, and they travel with us from harbour to harbour.

From the first raindrop to the widest ocean, from A to Z, Alpha to Omega, and yes, including X – we show up. Because water connects us all, and every meeting place is a chance to promote the protection water and waterlife needs.

So stay with us on this voyage. Keep the conversation flowing. And let’s see where the next tide takes us.
